This image highlights the University’s past, present, and future. At the far left of the painting are a series of images referencing the schools early years in the mid 19th century as Mansfield Normal School. Following this are images depicting the first african american student, and the first college football game to be played under electric lights. This last event took place on September 28th, 1892. As you travel further right you see the university’s name and credo created in trompe l’oeil lettering in the middle followed by current depictions of the campus and student body.

This project was sponsored and funded by Mansfield University.

A look at the process

I asked maintenance if I could use their scissor lift to get a final shot of the project. There was no other vantage point to get the entire image.

The first college football night game played under electric lights took place at Mansfield University on September 28th, 1892. It was still called ‘Mansfield Normal School’ at the time.
